Whitney Channings and the Pokeno Singers
Whitney Channings is a singer, actress, songwriter and Pokeno’s own local singing teacher. In 2013 she gained her Bachelor of Music Theatre from the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art, (NASDA) in Christchurch. Following her studies, Whitney toured NZ for two years with Capital E National Theatre for Children, where she discovered her love of songwriting and playing ukulele and guitar.
Whitney travelled the UK and Europe for two years, performing in some of London’s biggest interactive theatre attractions where she played many iconic characters, from Mrs Lovett to Princess Fiona.
Upon returning to New Zealand in 2018, Whitney moved to Pokeno. Since then, she has focused on her own creations, performing her original songs as well as writing and performing in her own original shows. Her one woman show Songs from My Suitcase has so far been performed at the Whangarei and Auckland Fringe festivals.
Whitney is passionate about fostering the local arts scene and teaches singing to students of all ages, from her studio in Pokeno. She loves to help people build their confidence through performing.
